Oncology Nursing Foundation Celebrates Excellence in Oncology Nursing Mentorship

PITTSBURGH, PA, March 27, 2025— The Oncology Nursing Foundation is proud to announce that the recipient of the 2025 Connie Henke Yarbro Excellence in Cancer Nursing Mentorship Award is Chinomso Nwozichi, PhD, RN, CMSRN, OCN®, FAAN.
Nwozichi is an assistant professor at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, where he advances and teaches pharmacology, adult health, health assessment, and pathophysiology at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He also spearheads research initiatives, including the development of the Time Toxicity Index to assess cancer treatment burdens and interventions to improve colorectal cancer screening among African immigrants in the United States.
He is the founder and president of the Oncology Nursing Society of Nigeria and serves as vice president (academics) of the Mu Phi At-Large Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. Nwozichi has mentored and guided numerous young African nurses in oncology nursing research, leadership, and career development. He has mentored numerous students and early-career researchers, profoundly influencing their academic and professional paths in oncology nursing through his guidance and support.

The Connie Henke Yarbro Excellence in Cancer Nursing Mentorship Award was established to recognize and support excellence in oncology nursing mentorship, in honor of Connie Henke Yarbro, MS, RN, FAAN, a founding member of the Oncology Nursing Society and the Oncology Nursing Foundation.
The Oncology Nursing Society created the Oncology Nursing Foundation in 1981 to accept charitable contributions to advance these important activities on behalf of oncology nursing. The mission of the Oncology Nursing Foundation is to support oncology nursing excellence. Thanks to the generosity of individuals and institutions, since its inception, the Oncology Nursing Foundation has awarded more than $33 million in funding for oncology nursing education, research, and leadership development, giving nurses the opportunity to pursue excellence in delivering care to patients with cancer.
